Bloodstock Management Consultancy

Confidential, expert advice is provided to clients on buying or selling their racehorses and broodmares.  We specialise in buying racehorses from the UK, Ireland and Europe including Germany, Poland and France.  We buy foals, yearlings and horses in training depending on the client’s requirements and can advise on suitable trainers, stud farms and pre-training yards for your new racehorses and broodmares.

We can also advise on a suitable racing programme and undertake the role of Racing Manager if required.

Buying and Selling

Mark attends all the main sales and through his many contacts, buys and sells racehorses privately on behalf of clients.  Mark also travels to Europe on a regular basis to seek out racehorses and broodmares for private purchase (Sales and Results).

Mark buys horses for the first-time buyer and for the experienced owner, helps to form syndicates and arranges racing partnerships for you or for your company.

We would recommend that you always seek professional advice when buying a racehorse and Mark’s expertise and valuable experience can help you to make the right choice.  (Bloodstock for sale)

Racehorse ownership

There are a few ways of becoming a racehorse owner, you can be a sole owner or a co-owner.

A Sole owner means you and no-one else owns the horse.  All costs and profits are yours alone and you will have close involvement with any decisions made.  You will be able to choose the name of your horse (if unraced) and choose the colours which will be worn in your name.

A Co-owner means this involves the participation of friends/colleagues and is basically more than one owner.  There are 4 variations in co-ownership:

  1. Joint ownership – this type of ownership is for 2 – 12 people and the horse can run in either a joint ownership’s name or in the name of one of the joint owners.
  2. Company ownership – for this type of ownership, the horse will be owned by the company’s shareholders.  The company must then appoint a registered Agent to act on it’s behalf.
  3. Racing partnership – this type of ownership is for 2 – 20 people of which 2 must already be or must become registered owners.
  4. Leasing – An agreement is made between the Owner, known as the Lessor and the Lessee for an agreed period of time which will take into consideration such decisions as to whether the prize money is split and who will bear all the costs of training fees and other expenses the horse will incur during this lease period.  The horse can be leased for one race or for its entire racing career and in general the costs incurred during the lease are the responsibility of the Lessee.  The benefit of this is that the horse will run under the ownership of the Lessee and there is no purchase price to bear.  At the end of the lease the horse will be returned to the legal owner/lessor.

Valuations

Mark is available to value horses for a sale or purchase price and is very experienced at valuing horses on their pedigree, conformation and race record.  He is happy to arrange an inspection, please contact him to discuss his valuation fee and travelling expenses.

Shipping/transport

We can recommend reputable, caring horse transporters, please contact us for our suggestions.

Insurance

We recommend that you please make sure that, if you are intending to insure your new horse, you insure from the minute you have purchased the horse.  We are not legally allowed to issue instructions to any insurance company on your behalf and therefore the responsibility is entirely yours as the new owner.   We have worked with all the major insurance companies over the years and would be happy to discuss the various options with you.
